Starved Rock State Park

Starved Rock State Park

Starved Rock State Park welcomes you!

Winter is a great time visit Starved Rock State Park. You can hike to Eagle Cliff and look down upon the frozen Illinois River to see eagles in flight, buffleheads, and barges as they pass through the locks of the Illinois Waterway. There's cross country skiing on the weekends at Matthiessen State Park. There's a warm fire glowing in the fireplace at Starved Rock Lodge.

Amazing waterfalls are active in the spring and after heavy rains. We have 13 miles of trails to explore, plus, the Illinois River offers fishing (ice fishing, too), boating, extraordinary views and great places to relax. Don't worry if you can't fit it all in, historic Starved Rock Lodge is just up the hill. Located on a bluff overlooking the Visitor Center, comfortable lodge rooms and cabins in the woods make for a great night's stay when you visit the park. The fireplace is glowing in the Great Hall. The Dining Room, Cafe and Back Door Lounge are open to the public year 'round.
