Road Construction & New Traffic Pattern on Route 178
September 29, 2017 (Oglesby, IL) – Caution! Construction on Route 178 south of the Illinois River has begun. Traffic patterns have been altered as visitors approach the west entrance to Starved Rock State Park. A new bridge is being built next to the current bridge and these changes are necessary for construction to move forward. There are now only two lanes and there is no turn lane into Starved Rock.
Getting in and out of Starved Rock onto Route 178 will be extremely difficult, especially during Burgoo and Fall colors weekend. The west entrance may close as traffic starts to back up on 178. All traffic heading southbound will be directed to the South entrance off of Route 71. Traffic that is wanting to head south, east or west of the park will be directed to exit through the south entrance. Please drive with caution in this area.
Guests visiting Starved Rock Lodge are encouraged to exit Interstate 80 at Route 23 and head south through Ottawa to Route 71 west.
