Things to See & Do

Towering canyons are visible all year round with amazing waterfalls that are active in the spring and after heavy rainfall. No matter what the season is, hiking to these spectacular sights is awe inspiring. Walk among the quiet forest, excited for what lies just beyond the next bend. You can spot deer bedded down along the trail, see colorful birds high in the trees, a squirrel or rabbit searching for it’s next meal – and wildflowers
blooming right along your path.

The river trails offer bluff views of the valleys and river. In the winter, experience the American Bald Eagle soaring over the river in search of it’s daily catch. Winter also brings the beauty of ice falls to the park that are truly amazing works of art!

Spring offers the beauty of babies and wildflowers. Young fawns frolicking in the forest and colorful wildflowers carpet the forest floor. Spring is the best time to see waterfalls, as the melting snow and ice flow through the canyons.

Fall is one of the favorite times of year with all the splendor of color! Yellows, golds, orange and vivid red are present on all the trails
throughout the park.

Whatever the season, Starved Rock is an amazing place to experience firsthand!
